A Registered Dietitian and a Registered Nutritionist have the same education and training and are both regulated members of the College.
Typically Registered Dietitians working in a hospital or health care institution will have a job title that uses the term "dietitian" and will focus on clinical care of the patient or manage food service.
Registered Dietitians working in community settings will typically have a job title that uses the term "nutritionist" and will focus on healthy eating and wellness at various stages of the lifecycle.
Be aware that anybody may provide nutrition advice. The general term “Nutritionist” is not protected by Alberta law and may be used by any individual and may be used in combination with other words. Only Registered Dietitians and Registered Nutritionists have the education required to register with the College and are held accountable to the College and the public for their quality of service.
