Getting Good Advice

The College encourages people to ask questions when choosing their health care professionals. Be sure to ask the following:

Are you getting sound advice?

  • Are you working with a regulated, registered health professional?
  • Are the recommendations being made sound and based on well accepted standards and scientific research such as Eating Well with Canada’s Food Guide or Dietary Reference Intakes for example?
  • Is the person providing advice also selling a product? Do they have your interest or their business interest at heart?

A regulated health care professional is required to provide the following information on request:

  • Name, business phone number and business address
  • Professional designation/professional regulatory body and registration number
  • Practice Permit issued by the regulatory body
  • Information about education/training/experience
